The APP Tour returns to the Gateway City this for its eighth tournament of the season – the 2023 APP Sunmed St. Louis Open, held August 9-13 at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center, in the heart of the city’s Forest Park.
More than 400 players will participate in the APP Sunmed St. Louis Open. Amateurs of all ages, elite pros and the AARP Champions (50+) Division will participate in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles competition throughout the week. The 2023 APP Sunmed St. Louis Open marks the APP’s exciting return to St. Louis after it previously hosted a tournament in May 2022.
Among the top pros participating are defending gold medalists Parris Todd, Simone Jardim, Hunter Johnson, Andrei Daescu, and Pesa Teoni. APP Tour mainstays Susannah Barr, Shelby Bates, John Cincola, Ryler DeHeart, Salome Devidze, Megan Fudge, Yates Johnson, Brendon Long, Rob Nunnery, Bobbi Oshiro, Milan Rane, Alix Truong, Lee Whitwell and members of the APP Next Gen National Team all return to action in St. Louis.
Todd was the hometown star at the 2023 APP Newport Beach Open, earning her second Triple Crown of the 2023 season with golds in women’s singles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. Todd leads all APP women’s pros with 16 total medals and all APP pros with 12 gold medals in 2023, and kept her undefeated APP Tour women’s doubles season alive with her seventh-straight gold alongside Jardim.
Hunter Johnson returned to form with two gold medals in Newport Beach – his first singles gold since the APP Mesa Open and first mixed doubles gold since the season-opening APP Sunmed Punta Gorda Open. Hunter’s 16 total medals in 2023 lead all APP men’s pros. Yates Johnson took home bronze in men’s singles – his ninth APP medal of 2023. The twin brothers have won all but one men’s singles title this season.
Daescu once again earned men’s pro doubles gold in Newport Beach, this time alongside Teoni, for his seventh in as many tournaments. Daescu’s ten gold medals this season lead all APP men’s pros this season. Daescu will pair up with Nunnery in men’s doubles and Barr in mixed doubles – both gold-medal-winning duos earlier this season.
Devidze returns to action in St. Louis. Devidze has won three women’s singles golds – including two straight prior to missing the APP Newport Beach Open – this season, plus a silver medal in Daytona Beach.
Allison Harris, Richard Livornese Jr., Spencer Lanier and Dominique Schaefer all earned their first medals of the 2023 APP Tour in Newport Beach and return to action in St. Louis. Andre Mick returns after earning his second APP Tour medal of 2023.
