CHICAGO (April 25, 2023) — The Association of Pickleball Professionals (APP) announced today the appointment of APP pro Andrei Daescu as Director of the APP Academy – the APP’s development clinics program. Daescu, a multi-time APP Tour gold medalist, will oversee all programming and organization of the APP Academy clinics, which are co-ed and catered to multiple age and skill levels and held in conjunction with APP Tour stops throughout 2023.
The APP Academy’s first clinic of 2023 will be held on Monday, May 1 at Johnson Ranch Pickleball Complex in Roseville, Calif., shortly after the 2023 APP Sunmed Sacramento Open. Clinics will be held at 8 am PT for skill levels 3.0-3.5, at 10:15 am PT for 3.5 skill levels, and at 12:30 pm PT for skill levels at 3.75 and above.
Additional APP Academy clinics will be held throughout the 2023 APP Tour schedule. Exact dates will be announced in the near future.
Daescu has enjoyed a terrific start to the 2023 APP Tour season, winning four gold medals – including three consecutive men’s doubles titles to begin the season. Daescu also recently took home gold in men’s pro doubles at the 2023 US Open Pickleball Championships in Naples, Fla. Daescu, a native of Romania and APP Tour pro since 2019, is also Head Touring Pro for Racquet Sports at BallenIsles Country Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
“It’s an honor to lead the APP Academy,” said Daescu. “Pickleball means so much to me, and teaching it is one of my biggest passions. I look forward to getting to know some incredible people in the pickleball community, helping them elevate their games to the next level, and spreading the beautiful game of pickleball.”
“We are excited to welcome the return of the APP Academy in 2023, and are thrilled to have Andrei at the helm,” commented Ken Herrmann, founder of the APP. “Andrei is a world-class pickleball pro, a great mentor and a role model for the APP and the entire pickleball community.”
